Joel Rosenbaum M'56 recently received an honorary degree from the
University of Siena in Italy, for research in cell biology that he has
conducted with colleagues there.
Rosenbaum, professor of cell and molecular biology at Yale University,
earned his bachelor's degree, a master's degree and the Ph.D. at Syracuse
University, in addition to a
master's degree in education at St. Lawrence.
He has been studying the ultrastructure of the Intraflagellar
Transport (IFT) process with colleagues in the department of evolutionary
biology at the University of Siena for many years; his overall research in the
field extends to over 40 years. Rosenbaum was honored at Siena for the
contributions his research has made to understanding the role of
cilia and flagella in polycystic kidney disease.
