Jacob Birchard '10
Jacob Birchard '10, of Amherst, NH, has won the Marleigh Grayer Ryan College Student Writing Prize for best student paper dealing with Asia, from the New York Conference on Asian Studies.
Birchard's paper is an abridged version of his senior thesis entitled, "State Intervention in India: An Analysis of Bureaucratic Change and its Impact on Economic Growth." Birchard's advisor was Assistant Professor of Government Grace Huang.
A government major, Birchard studied in India in the fall of 2008, through the University's program of study there. He was also a member of the Nordic ski team. Another government major, Kevin Keepper '08, won the prize in 2008.
