Brian Hanson '07, of White River Junction, VT, and Visiting Instructor in
Geology Diane Burns gave a research presentation at the 42nd annual meeting
of the Northeastern Section of the Geological Society of America, held
March 12-14, 2007, in Durham, NH.
The presentation, titled "V-Shaped Pits as Indicators of Specific
Depositional Environments," reported on a study conducted by Hanson and
Burns analyzing samples of sand from a wide range of environments to
obtain samples exhibiting the v-shaped pits. Their abstract states, "Once
found, these samples will be subjected to statistical analyses to determine
if their presence is evidence that supports the interpretation that they
indicate one unique depositional environment."
