The St. Lawrence University chapter of Habitat for Humanity recently presented
a check for $2,000 to Raquette Valley Habitat for Humanity, to assist with
the group's 2008 building project, in nearby Renssealer Falls.
The funds were raised throughout the fall 2007 semester, through "50-50"
drawings at athletic events, can/bottle drives, coin drives, T-shirt sales
and proceeds from the sale of Laurentian
Singers CDs.
To raise more funding, the group is selling locally made
Skeeda fabric bags in the Student Center. In addition, members of Habitate
are volunteer holiday gift-wrappers at the St. Lawrence Center Mall in Massena.
The local and campus chapters of the group have stepped up fund-raising efforts,
when they learned there were insufficient funds for the next project, due to
sharply increased costs for building materials. In addition, the project is the largest
that the group has endeavored to date, for a family that includes four children.
Construction is scheduled to get under way in the spring of 2008.
