Two St. Lawrence University graduates are bringing the flavor of Europe to
Cleveland, Ohio, via their bakery that specializes in contintental-style breads and
pastries.
Adam and Jennifer Gidlow, both Class of 1993, are the owners and operators of
On The Rise Artisan Breads and Pastries in Cleveland Heights, and were recently
profiled in the Sunday magazine supplement of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Their European-style bakery opened in December of 2001, with 13 kinds of goodies --
from challah to raisin cinnamon swirl -- on the menu.
Adam Gidlow earned his St. Lawrence degree in environmental studies and psychology;
Jennifer Gidlow majored in French and fine arts. Both studied at the National
Baking Center in San Francisco, and visited small village bakeries in France and
Italy before beginning their new business. As Adam told the newspaper, "We get
satisfaction watching customers walk out the door or down the street with a fresh
baguette under their arm."
