Two St. Lawrence University students have been awarded
an Angelo Tagliacozzo Memorial Geological Scholarship. Johanna Palmer '09,
of East Meredith, NY, and Michael O'Connor '09, of Rouses Point, NY,
were among five students awarded scholarships; 14 applied.
The scholarship, awarded by the Northeast Section of the American Institute of
Professional Geologists (NE-AIPG), is one of the few specifically
offered to future geologists by practicing geologists. The principal aim of
the program is to offer financial support to current junior and senior
undergraduate geology students and to encourage serious and deserving
students to continue their studies in the geological sciences.
Palmer is a geology major, with a minor
in anthropology. She is studying
at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, for the spring
2008 semester.
O'Connor is majoring in environmental studies
and geology, with a minor in
music. He is studying in
Australia for the spring 2008 semester.
