Assistant Professor of Chemistry Ning Gao recently gave an invited talk on
an area of her research to members of the St. Lawrence County Environmental Management
Council.
Gao's presentation concerned her research on mercury contamination in Lake Champlain.
Two alumni who assisted with the research as students, Nathan Gabriel Armatas '02 and
Benjamin Puchalski '03, contributed to the project.
A paper based on the research, by Gao and Armatas, on the mass balance assessment of
mercury in Lake Champlain extensively, was published in the Journal of American Geophysics Union.
Armatas is currently a doctoral student in the chemistry program at Syracuse University.
