Two St. Lawrence University professors will give invited lectures at other
institutions in September.
Assistant Professor of Psychology William DeCoteau has been invited to his undergraduate
alma mater, Mercyhurst College, to give a lecture as part of a weekend celebrating
the inauguration of its new president, Thomas J. Gamble. DeCoteau is speaking on "Getting
by in a Complex World: How the Brain Makes, Breaks and Bends Rules" on Sunday, September
10. His current research examines the biological basis of habit-learning and behavioral
flexibility; DeCoteau is also interested in research relative to Parkinson's disease,
Huntington's disease, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder and drug addiction.
Professor of Government Calvin F. Exoo has been named the recipient of the Saul O. Sidore
Lectureship Award by Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire.
Other recent recipients of the award have included Noam Chomsky, William Julius Wilson
and Michael Parenti. The theme of this year's lecture is "The Challenge of Democracy."
Exoo's lecture, on September 19, will draw on his new book, Media 9/11: How the Press Led Us Into War,
and Why, due from Sage Publications in 2007.
