Emily Gowdey-Backus '10
While conducting some research, senior history major Emily Gowdey-Backus discovered a family connection to her academic work. She put together a Web site for the department of the photographs of her great-grandfather, C.C. Gowdey, conducting research just after the turn of the 20th century.
Gowdey-Backus, of Burlington, CT, has focused her studies in history on World War II. While conducting some of that research, she found copyrighted photographs of C.C. Gowdey, who studied entomology, in the Middle East and East Africa, from about 1909 through 1915.
Read more about Gowdey-Backus, and see the photos, on the history department's Web site.
