The Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA) Board of Directors has chosen
Edward J. Amsler '68 to serve as its chairman. Amsler is vice president of the
Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company (MLMIC), a doctor-owned medical malpractice
insurer that covers more than 20,000 physicians, dentists and hospitals primarily
in New York. He is also an attorney with more than 30 years of experience in
representing the interests of physicians and hospitals.
In addition to his duties at MLMIC, Amsler is a partner at Fager & Amsler, Attorneys
and Counselors-at-Law, and president of Donald J. Fager & Associates, MLMIC's
administrative services provider. He is a member of the American Bar Association,
where he serves on its Tort and Insurance Section. He is also active in the New
York State Bar Association, the Onondaga County Bar Association, and the
Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
Amsler earned his St. Lawrence University degree in government, and completed
his J.D. degree at Syracuse University. As an undergraduate at St. Lawrence,
he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the Omicron Delta Kappa
leadership honorary, and participated in ROTC. Amsler has served the University
both as a member of the Alumni Executive Council and the Board of Trustees, and
has been active as a fund-raising volunteer.
