Derrick Pitts '78
Trustee Derrick Pitts '78 has been named one of the TheGrio's "100 Black History-Makers in the Making."
TheGrio.com is "the first video-centric news community site devoted to providing African Americans with stories and perspectives that appeal to them but are underrepresented in existing national news outlets. TheGrio features aggregated and original video packages, news articles, and blogs on topics from breaking news, politics, health, business, and entertainment."
The site chose individuals in 10 categories. It terms Pitts, chief astronomer at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, "a star among the stars."
A geology major at St. Lawrence, Pitts
makes frequent appearances in the regional news in Philadelphia, as well as
in national news outlets, including "The Countdown with Keith Olbermann" on MSNBC.
