Trustee Derrick Pitts '78 has been featured in a number of major news outlets
recently, discussing a telescope that was used by Galileo, on loan to the
Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, where Pitts is chief astronomer.
The featured piece in an exhibition called "Galileo, the Medici and the Age of Astronomy," the telescope will be at the Franklin Insitute through September, in celebration of the
International Year of Astronomy. It is the first time that the instrument
has been allowed out of Italy.
Pitts has been interviewed and quoted for recent stories in The New York
Times and The Wall Street Journal, as well as National Public Radio
and "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central.
A geology major at St. Lawrence, Pitts
makes frequent appearances in the regional news in Philadelphia, as well as
