Dean Eppler '74 recieved NASA's Exceptional Public Service Medal on July 9, recognizing
"exceptional contributions to the mission of NASA."
Eppler received the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal for non-government personnel,
the highest honor NASA awards to anyone who was not a government employee when the service was performed. The award is granted only to individuals whose distinguished accomplishments contributed substantially to the NASA mission. According to NASA, "The contribution must be so extraordinary that other forms of recognition would be inadequate."
He earned his St. Lawrence degree in geology, a master's degree from the University of New Mexico and the Ph.D. from Arizona State University. He is a senior scientist at NASA.
