Media coverage of the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Robert Kennedy
included several mentions of Kennedy's speech at St. Lawrence University in
1966, which was recorded by David Emblidge '67, an associate professor in the
department of writing, literature and publishing at Emerson College.
Emblidge wrote an essay, titled "My Bobby Kennedy and Yours," which was
published by
CommonDreams.org on June 6. The essay is an account of Kennedy's talk
at St. Lawrence, and Emblidge's views upon listening to the recording now.
Amy Goodman interviewed Emblidge for a special edition of DemocracyNow.org,
on Kennedy. The show included excerpts of the talk at St. Lawrence, which had never
been broadcast.
Emblidge, who earned his St. Lawrence degree in
English, holds a master's degree from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. from
the University of Minnesota. He has worked extensively as an author and and editor,
as well as an educator. At St. Lawrence, he was president of the student government
organization the Thelomathesian Society and
was elected to the leadership honorary Omicron
Delta Kappa.
