A geology professor and one of his former students recently presented a
paper they co-authored at a paleobotony conference in Argentina.
Daniel J. Peppe '03 presented a paper, co-authored with Chapin
Professor of Geology Mark Erickson, at the International Organization
of Paleobotany Conference VII held March 21-26, 2004 in Bariloche,
Argentina. The paper was entitled "Coastal Paleoclimate Estimates From
Late Maastrichtian Fox Hills I Floral Physiognomy, North Dakota, USA"
and it described the paleoclimatic conditions along the coastline of
the Western Interior Seaway near the K—T boundary when dinosaur extinctions
took place.
The work was based on Peppe's senior honors thesis in geology at
St. Lawrence University. He is presently pursuing his doctorate at Yale in
paleobotany.
