Following a revision to the salary policy for faculty and staff in 2008, the University initiated discussions with the three collective-bargaining units on campus that resulted in a higher general-wage increase (GWI) than had previously been agreed upon.
In 2007, all three units - Civil Service Employees Union (CSEA), Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and Professional Campus Public Safety Officers Affiliated (PCPSOA) - negotiated for a GWI of 4 percent, effective July 1. The contracts were renegotiated, reflecting a GWI for 2008 only, of 4.5 percent. The additional .5 percent is "rolled in" to the base pay structure, so overtime, retirement and other items will be affected by the increase as well.
