Christopher Kenney '96, director of education at the McKinley Museum in Canton, Ohio,
has received a Commendation Award for History Outreach from the Ohio Association of
Historical Societies and Musuems for programming he developed for students in kindergarten
through fourth grade.
Kenney, who received his St. Lawrence degree in history and music, developed four programs
around Ohio's proficiency requirements in history, called "Ohio & You." The programs have
become so popular, the museum had to hire a part-time teacher dedicated to serving the students
and teachers clamoring for the classes. The program titles, for the different grade levels,
are "McKinley & Me," "A Visit With The McKinleys," "Stark County, Then and Now" and "Beautiful
Ohio."
Kenney also has a degree from the Cooperstown Graduate Program in History Museum Studies. While
at St. Lawrence, he studied in Italy and was a member of the Laurentian Singers and the music
honorary, the Ives Society.
He has been on the staff of the McKinley Museum since 2001.
