Associate Professor of Geology Jeffrey Chiarenzelli '81 recently served on the Earth Science review panel for the National Science Foundation, at meetings held in Washington, DC, in December of 2009. The panel ranked and awarded funds for the NSF geochemistry major research instrumentation program; Chiarenzelli was the only panelist invited from a primarily undergraduate institution.
Additional panelists represented the University of Vermont, California, Michigan, Maryland, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Rutgers, Stanford, Florida State, Memorial University of Newfoundland and the Carnegie Institute of Washington. The group awarded $3.5 million in grant funds.
