Five St. Lawrence alumni, all of whom were students in a translation
workshop taught by Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures Steven White, have had work
published in the Cadernos de Tradução, No. XVI,
from the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Florianópolis, Brazil.
The journal also includes a review by Professor of Physics Daniel W. Koon.
Work by the St. Lawrence alumni and faculty comprise an entire section of the volume,
of book reviews. All of the articles resulted from work done in White's
"Literary Translation: Theory and Practice" workshop. Alumni-authored reviews
included are
One into many: Translation and the dissemination of classical Chinese
literature, by Lindsay F. Farrar '05; Language processing in
discourse: A key to felicitous translation, by Jamie Haynes '04; Interpreting
in the 21st Century, by Rebecca Holt '05; What is world literature?,
by Heather O'Dea '04; and Voice-Overs: Translation and Latin American Literature,
by Justyna Szychowska '04n. The review by Koon is titled Jewish translation
history: A bibliography of bibliographies and studies.
Work by many of White's former students, all accomplished in classes and
workshops he teaches, has appeared in previous editions of the journal.
