Prescott Earns Intercultural Leadership Award
Bill Prescott, St. Lawrence Class of 2014, was awarded an Intercultural Leadership Award from the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) during his time Denmark in fall 2012.
“Bill showed an outstanding commitment to immersion during his time at DIS, and has gone above and beyond to use the tools DIS has provided to develop his experience,” said Jamie Cathell, institutional relations and projects coordinator at DIS.
“Bill was an active member on the Student Activities Committee (SAC),” Cathell added. “He helped plan events for DIS students using local businesses and institutions, specifically arranging and coordinating the Valby Christmas Run and SAC Bowling events, as well as assisting at wine and beer tastings, and the mid-semester party. Additionally, Bill was part of a DIS Buddy Network, and enjoyed playing soccer with a local Danish team. Even though they sometimes struggled with the actual language being spoken on the field, Bill realized that they all spoke the language of soccer, and this activity, and the friendships he made through the team, ended up being the highlight of his time in Denmark.”
The Intercultural Leadership Award is recognition from DIS that a student has stepped out of their “box” during his or her semester, building personal leadership through engaging in a multitude of cultural immersion activities, such as housing, academics and extracurricular activities while studying at DIS.
