Anne Harrington '72 has been appointed National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) deputy administrator for Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation. In her new post, Harrington will manage NNSA's $2.7 billion nuclear nonproliferation program, in more than 100 countries, to secure vulnerable nuclear material around the world, stop nuclear smuggling and prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

A native of Tupper Lake, N.Y., Harrington grew up in Long Lake. She earned her St. Lawrence degree in English and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary.

An interview with Harrington in her hometown newspaper, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, quotes her as stating, "I had a lot of different experiences and exposures," while studying at St. Lawrence. "That, for me, is one of the great values of liberal arts education. I draw every day on what I learned while I was at St. Lawrence. It was a great foundation for my education."
