Khia Grinnell is Jamestown S'Klallam and Lummi. She grew up in Washington commercial fishing before attending St. Lawrence University. At St. Lawrence, Khia was a Government major and minored in Native American Studies and Communications.  During her time at St. Lawrence Khia attended the opening of the American Indian Smithsonian, numerous National Congress of American Indian conferences, Northwest Native American Basketweaving Association gatherings as a youth teacher and represented Northwest Tribes at the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival in Washington DC Summer 2006 and was the speaker for her canoe during Tribal Journey 2007.
