I fell in love with St. Lawrence when I was a sophomore in high school. That year I came to campus for the first time to drop off my older sister, Courtney, who was a first-year here in 2008. There was such a strong sense of community and the people were exceptionally welcoming. Two years later, my parents loaded up the car to take both of their daughters to St. Lawrence for the collegiate year.

I speak English, Spanish and intermediate Sign Language. Last fall I studied off campus in Madrid, Spain and spent many weekends traveling throughout the country. As a result, my speaking, writing and comprehension skills in the language improved immeasurably. The experience also reaffirmed my desire to travel to other Spanish-speaking countries in the future. I also major in Sociology. For the Fall 2013 semester, I am interning at the Department of Social Services in Canton, working with local families in need of assistance.

In spite of how busy my schoolwork keeps me, taking time out everyday to be a part of a team at St. Lawrence has been immensely rewarding. I have had the opportunity to travel to New York City and compete at the indoor Armory Track, where Olympians such as Usain Bolt and Jenn Shur have competed. As a team, we have won Liberty Leagues three years in a row! I have also created strong friendships that have been essential to surviving my four years of college.

After graduation I plan on attending graduate school for a master’s degree in Medical Social Work. Eventually I hope to put both of my degrees from St. Lawrence to use in a hospital setting.
