Zhenjun Zhang, Assistant Professor of Chinese and Asian Studies, earned his M.A. in Classical Chinese Literature at Beijing University and Ph.D. in Chinese Language and Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Zhang is the author of Traditional Fiction and Chinese Culture (1996), co-author of the Ten Great Masters of Humorous Performance (1994), Taboo of Chinese Women (1996) [in Chinese], and co-translator of the Grand Scribe’s Records (2006). Currently he is working on the interaction of Buddhism and Chinese fiction.

Dr. Zhang taught in several universities in recent years. The courses he taught includes Mandarin Chinese at all levels, Classical Chinese, China’s Ancient World, Literary Tradition of China, 3000 Years’ of Chinese Literature, Modern China through Film and Fiction, and Buddhism and Taoism through Chinese Literature. Dr. Zhang is now teaching Elementary Chinese, Advanced Chinese, and a class entitled “Chinese Culture through Film” through the programs of Asian Studies and Film Studies. From next semester, Dr. Zhang will offer other courses on Chinese literature and culture while continuing to teach Chinese language classes.
