Susan Bantu, received her Swahili Teaching Fellowship from SLU in August 2006 to teach Swahili Language and Culture for two years. Susan has an MA in African Studies from Ohio State University, Columbus and a BA in Political Science and Literature from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
She has taught African Studies, Swahili Language and African Literature at Ohio State University, New York University and The Wangari Maathai Empowerment Center.
She is currently enrolled for her second MA in Counseling and Human Development at SLU and is interested in advocating for the introduction of counseling and guidance programs in High Schools in Kenya to minimize the increasing levels of teenage sex and pregnancy, rape, HIV/Aids infections, peer pressure, prostitution, drug and alcohol abuse, school drop-out rates, crime, a lack of motivation for education, and a lack of career guidance, among others.
Susan is also in the final stages of compiling a book on her journey as an African Alien in America.
