St. Lawrence University is joining in the nation wide celebration of National Foreign Language Week (NFLW) again this year. Inaugurated in the spring of 1957 by Alpha Mu Gamma (the Foreign Language Honorary), NFLW is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of languages and also to promote international experience and exposure to different cultures. The Modern Languages and Literatures Department and the Center for International and Intercultural Studies has organized a week full of exciting events. Please see the calendar to learn the date, time, and place for all events.

Over 100 members of the faculty and staff at St. Lawrence have indicated that they speak at least one foreign language; about 50 languages in all are spoken by people at the University, including the seven that are taught. Those who speak foreign languages will have signs on their office doors, indicating which languages they speak, during the celebration.

International flags will be displayed throughout the Student Center to celebrate the different countries represented on campus, and Dana Dining Center will serve a variety of international foods. The public is welcome to join students at Dana for dinner any night of the week to sample the international fare, at a cost of $9 per person; dinner is served from 5 to 8 p.m.

Also, Owen D. Young Library will highlight international periodicals and other resources of use to those with international interests, and Carnegie Hall will display posters created by students who have received grants for international study by the Center for International and Intercultural Study.

Join in the celebration and support foreign language learning!!
