The “senselessness” of the Vietnam Conflict brought the United States together in a gun-less war known as the Antiwar Movement. Its slogan “Make Love and Not War” symbolized a nation’s ideals, frustrations, and present reality. The war affected many, but G.I.s – active and returning – suffered the most repercussions. “Silence” was the only sound that these men heard; the memories of Vietnam hampered their ability to “voice” their emotions. However, music brought relief to their lives. Not only did it connect them with their inner-beings, but it also personified a community’s desire for a better World.
