“…but Maybe a Woman Can Be”

I wrote three fictional stories about life as a female in St. Lawrence County. In these stories I made reference to the lack of progression of feminism in St. Lawrence County as well as linking domestic abuse and discourse as two possible causes. I chose to write short stories spanning three generations because I felt that statistical information would not grasp the essence of experience that I wanted to focus on. I conducted interviews and read articles on feminism and women’s history, as well as works of fiction concerning sensitive subject matter. I wanted to draw attention to an unrecognized way of life, and I believe I have been successful (even if only on a modest level) in creating awareness.
