A Cuban History: His-story, Her-story, Our-story

Writing this paper was, for me, an act of cultural reclamation. I have researched Cuban history, including political developments, world relations, and Castro’s regime, in order to place my father’s (a Cuban-American’s) story within the proper historical context. This paper is a hybrid of creative non-fiction and historical analysis. I have applied historical arguments of what happened and why to the concrete reality of Jorge Campos’s life. In short, this paper brings Cuban immigrant history to life, giving the reader a much more tangible understanding of the Cuban-American experience than can be found in a history book.
