The Bates award is given annually to an outstanding senior who is a major in mathematics, computer science, or statistics and who has excelled in scholarship and service to the Department.  The recipient must have completed an honors project and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The department faculty members select the recipient subject to these conditions.
The names of the recipients of this award, the highest honor bestowed by the department, appear below in reverse chronological order back to 1977, the year the mathematiacs award was first given.
