State Your Belief in Higher Education
College graduation might be the opportune moment to define important causes in your life, and craft a plan that reflects your values. For example, do you feel that higher education is critical to the future of our society? Do you wish to say "thank you" for how St. Lawrence prepared you to meet the diverse challenges that lie ahead?
For Casey Peterson '03, commencement was also the start of her vision to make a better world. St. Lawrence is in her estate plan as a statement about what higher education did for her, and how critical it will be for future generations. Right now, the size of her gift may be modest, but the value of her intention is enormous.
Even at this age, there are steps you can take to define the values of your existence, and how you wish to make a difference in the lives of others:
|
A simple gift - A bequest to St. Lawrence in your will may name a specific dollar amount, a percentage, or the remainder of your estate. The size is not important; making a statement about the value of higher education is.
A small percentage - Name St. Lawrence as a percentage beneficiary of your retirement plan. Even a small percentage will make a difference for some future student.
A smart choice - Do you have a life insurance policy from childhood, or coverage from your employer? Naming St. Lawrence as a percentage beneficiary on a life insurance policy is a statement of the importance of higher education.
What? You don't have a will? Every adult should have a will. It is the basis for a sound estate plan, even if you have just graduated from college. Need help getting organized before meeting with an attorney? Request our Estate Planning Organizer.
Would you like help organizing and defining your philanthropy? Request our Philanthropic Planner.
Your plan for St. Lawrence's future may make you a member of the G. Atwood Manley Society.
