Community Service and Yesterday’s Youth
The Community Development Corps (CDC) was the organization around which
community service volunteers coalesced in the 1960s and ’70s. Members rehabilitated
housing, held Christmas parties for local children (as did many Greek chapters) and
brought therapy dogs to area nursing homes. Sometime after 1977 (judging by the
Star Wars” shirt), CDC sponsored a “Youth Challenge” on campus, and at least these
participants all seemed to be having the time of their lives. We don’t know much
