St . Lawrence Fund Scho l ar s Program

by Mary Baucom ’13
Want to contribute to St. Lawrence in a way that will
instantly benefit a deserving student? The new St. Lawrence
Fund Scholars Program gives alumni the opportunity to form
a continuing relationship with a student, one that will endure
beyond the recipient’s undergraduate studies.
Through a donation of $5,000, participating alumni will
have a one-year unrestricted scholarship named in their
honor presented to an eligible student beginning in fall 2014.
Alumni will be encouraged to continue their pledge through-
out their designated recipient’s St. Lawrence career, thereby
strengthening and continuing to build their relationship.
I was attracted to this program by the opportunity to see
tangible results of my donation through direct interaction
with the recipient throughout his or her tenure at
St. Lawrence,” says Christopher Driscoll ’92. “I hope that I
can maintain contact with the recipient and assist him or her
to make a significant contribution to the St. Lawrence com-
munity and beyond.”
Besides creating a way for more students to receive financial
aid, the program also enables donors to have their names
attached to a scholarship. “This program allows donors who
feel strongly about financial aid to connect with students and
enjoy a stewardship experience,” says Associate Director of
Annual Giving Amanda Fish.
The scholars program speaks to the University’s goal of
engaging alumni more deeply, as outlined in St. Lawrence’s
Strategic Map. “Alumni mentorship is one key in advancing
the University, and the more we can create opportunities for
this kind of interaction, the better,” says Fish.

Enduring Gift
In March, St. Lawrence entered a friendly competition
with Hobart and William Smith, Skidmore and Union
Colleges to see which institution had the most loyal young
alumni, as indicated by which had the most donors give in
that month. Alumni from the classes of 2003 through 2012
participated by making gifts of all sizes to support their
alma maters.
Laurentians jumped to a strong lead from day one and
never looked back. In total, 528 gifts were received from
our amazing young alumni. For final results, visit

March count!
