FALL 2012 | St. Lawrence University Magazine
On a sad note, I write with the heaviest of hearts
Dina Kuruc Nice
lost her husband, John, af-
ter a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral
services were held in the spring in Syracuse. Con-
tributions may be made in his name to the Ameri-
can Cancer Society. Our thoughts and prayers
go out to Dina, their children and their extended
family during this difficult time.

I hope everyone had a great summer! Keep your
news coming to me via email or Facebook.
Mary Ames Cox
and husband Jeff ’87 still live in
Bedford, N.Y. Their son Brian is a junior at the Uni-
versity of St. Andrews in Scotland. Their daughter
Sarah graduated from Deerfield Academy and
has started at Middlebury. To fill the void, they ad-
opted two golden retriever puppies. Life is won-
derfully busy, they say.
News from
Carl Mead
is that the Little League
team that his son Max plays on won the District
Tournament of Champions. His family is doing
great in Mission Viejo, Calif. Max is in high school
and daughter Haley is in eighth grade. His wife,
MaryBeth, is heavily involved in the PTA and Carl
is still employed at AT&T as the field marketing
manager supporting all of the sales teams for
their premier accounts in the Western U.S., from
Denver to the Pacific Ocean.
I spent the summer teaching communications at
the College of New Rochelle as well as continu-
ing to teach ice skating. Tara is now 15 and is also
teaching ice skating, while Trevor is 13 and enjoys

I write this column shortly after our 25th Class
Reunion in Canton. I had a great time and it was
really fun to see so many classmates, check out
the changes on campus and show St. Lawrence
to my kids.
The highlights of the weekend for me were
s Friday night concert in the new Under-
ground space where the bowling alley used to
be, exploring the climbing wall in the new field
house, and our banquet with
Randy Sieminski
emceeing a Class of ’87 trivia contest. I enjoyed
my four years at St. Lawrence, and reconnecting
with people 25 years later reminded me why!
I saw
Dan O’Connor
at Reunion. Dan is living
in Duxbury, Mass., with Kim and their three boys,
Quinn, 16, Graham, 12, and Griffin, 8. Danworks in
Boston for BlackRock, managing institutional ac-
counts. He’s regularly in touch with
Tim Corley
Pete Leinbach
Chris DeLorenzo
Andy Mager
Eric Godfrey
and Dan Boardman ’86.
Jon Erd-
joined them this year for a trip to Tim’s camp
in Vermont.
I was also glad to catch up with
Hallet DeLorenzo
at Reunion. Chris and Cathy
live in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. They are proud
parents to John, 18, and Lizzie, 15. John is a first-
year student at St. Lawrence! Chris is a chemistry
teacher at Saratoga Springs High School and
Cathy is the senior associate director of admis-
sions at Skidmore.
From the alumni office, I
received the exciting news
King Alexander
is president of Cal State
Long Beach, was chosen
as the winner of the Rob-
ert C. Maxson President
of the Year Award by the
California State Student
Association for a second
time. This award is given to
one president each year by the CSSA in recogni-
tion of “leadership demonstrating dedication to
CSU students in shared governance and support
of student issues on a state level.” King has been
president of CSULB since 2005. Congratulations
on this prestigious award!
There was a lovely article in an April issue of the
Glens Falls, N.Y.,
about the husband and
daughter of
Lynn LaMontagne Schumann
died of breast cancer in 2010. This reminded me
of another special part of our class reunion: a
moment of silence for all of our classmates who
have passed away. I’d like to finish this column by
asking you all to take a moment to contact col-
lege friends who are living and remember those
who are not. I hope to see all of you at our next

Special thanks to
Vito Scarola
for being the first
to respond to my request for news and actually
picking up the phone to call with an update! He
works in New York, lives in New Jersey with his
wife, Letitia, and kids, and is busy keeping up with
his children’s sports and activities.
Charlie Sullivan
lives in Jamesville, N.Y., with
his wife, Debbie, and three children. He is an at-
torney and partner with Bond, Schoeneck & King,
PLLC, in Syracuse. Since 2008 he has served on
St. Lawrence’s Alumni Executive Council and
writes,“That experience has been great – through
the council I have developed friendships with a
fantastic group of really engaged alumni, and
have strengthened my ties to the University.”
Charlie and I sang together in Laurentian Singers
and count the 1986 Laurentian Singers European
tour among our favorite memories.
Tom Hall
sent an email describing his 21-year
career with the U.S. Army, which included tours
in Arizona, California, Texas, Germany, Vermont,
Canada and England before concluding in Wash-
ington, D.C., where he retired from active duty.
He served in—and emerged unscathed from—
both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi
Freedom. Upon retiring in 2011, he stayed with
the federal government, working for the execu-
tive office for the United States Attorneys in the
Department of Justice. He uses his military expe-
rience to manage the program that oversees the
intelligence specialists who serve in each of the
U.S. Attorneys’Offices nationwide. Tom lives in
Falls Church, Va., with his wife and two daughters,
ages 9 and 11, and fills his spare time coaching his
older daughter’s soccer team, teaching skiing to
the disabled and learning how to fence.

were students, including Who Cares? (members
