Head men's and women's tennis coach Jeremy Freeman '96 thinks
St. Lawrence "provides a great environment" for student
athletes to learn and grow.
Freeman, who earned his St. Lawrence degree in psychology,
returned to his alma mater as men's and women's tennis coach
after coaching for a while elsewhere. A member of the men's tennis
team as an undergraduate, he has an extensive background in tennis
coaching and has been the head tennis professional at the Lake Placid
Resort and other clubs and camps.
"Athletics at a small liberal arts college provides an opportunity
for the student athlete to take on a leadership role and become a
positive model," Freeman says. "As an educator, I'm here
to teach the skills needed to compete not only on the tennis court,
but also in the classroom and beyond. It's a role that I take very
seriously, and it is because of the opportunity to teach lifelong
skills that I work at St. Lawrence. Student athletes here learn how
to be team players. Our student athletes want to succeed, and St.
Lawrence provides a great environment to help them achieve their
goals.”
Freeman was named the 2001 UCAA Men's Tennis Coach of the Year as well
as the 2003 UCAA Women's Coach of the Year. In 2004 Freeman was selected
by the Student Athletic Advisory Committee as the Bernie McKinnon Coach
of the Year Award recipient, which is given to a St. Lawrence coach
in recognition of outstanding contribution to athletics at the University.
