Caitlin Christie ’11

Caitlin Christie ’11, of Lamoine, Maine, believes strongly in the importance of community service, and that has guided all aspects of her St. Lawrence career.  The Mt. Desert Island High School graduate is president of St. Lawrence’s Habitat for Humanity chapter.  In calendar year 2010, “H4H” has completed a house, begun another and is planning a third, all within a few minutes of Canton.

“We do a lot of fundraising,” says Caitlin. “And I was privileged to go on the Habitat Spring Break trip to Tennessee last March.”

The Campus Kitchen Project is new to the SLU campus this year, and Caitlin has been a huge contributor to the program’s success. She is coordinator for the program, which utilizes prepared but un-served food from the dining sites on campus to create healthy meals for local residents. “I am very happy with the way this project has turned out and I am hoping to expand it in the near future,” says Caitlin.

Theanthropology and fine arts double major even finds time to catch a movie on campus with friends.  “In anthropology, my favorite courses have been ‘Bones of Contention’ and ‘Forensic Anthropology.’ They were very hands-on and I was always excited to learn more in these classes,” says Caitlin.

“I would love to get into the art world and perhaps work at a museum, continue my work with anthropology and maybe go to graduate school,” says Caitlin. “And I want to continue service in the community I end up in. I love interacting with my community and giving back in any way.”
