Peak Weekend

St. Lawrence University

October and Chlorine

“Peak Weekend is traditionally an excellent recruiting tool” my swim coach, Bob Clemmer, likes to say. I can only hope our swim recruit this year’s Peak Weekend liked hiking through water as much as swimming through it. My favorite SLU tradition was more damp than usual this fall, to say the least.

my sunny sophomore Peak Weekend

To the breathless mountaineers who tackled a 46er (or way more than one!) this month, tradition might be enjoying October from a fiery peak.

3 Days, 46 Peaks

The past two weeks have been amazing!! It's truly become evident that school is definitely IN SESSION. Everywhere I look, I see people encapsulated in their everyday routine. Mondays, I know that I'll be putting in my lunch order with the same two lacrosse players that I pass every week in the Pub. Tuesdays and Thursdays, I work out with the same handful of athletes in the gym and see the same crew of climbers working on problems at the climbing wall. There's always a silent- yet noticeable- acknowledgement between two parties that see each other on a regular basis.

A Blessing in Disguise

At first, I was disappointed that I wouldn't be going hiking this weekend as part of Peak Weekend.  For those of you that don't know, Peak Weekend is St. Lawrence tradition, hosted by the Outing Club.  The goal is to put at least one student on top of each of the 46 high peaks in the Adirondack Mountains over the course of the weekend.  There are many different levels of hikes, from fairly leisurely to pretty rigorous.  There are day hikes and there are hikes that require camping overnight.

Ahhh, the Fall!

So uhh...I have never written a blog in my life, but can you really say no to the people that you're hoping will hire you someday?  I didn't think so either, and thus begins my life as a blogger.  I think I have some idea of how this whole blog thing works, but please don't blame me if I use it as an outlet for my complaints about how Dana ran out of vanilla iced cream YET AGAIN or the pub charged me extra money just because I wanted to add a few extra veggies to my sub.  Remember, you're the one who decided to read this, I didn't force you!

The Adirondacks, Skiing, and Marathons

I've been staying sane this fall by taking trips off campus almost every weekend. I have been hiking in the Adirondacks a sizable amount and also ran a half marathon in Lake Placid one weekend. This past weekend was the Outing Club's annual Peak Weekend where we try to put at least one person on each of the 46 high peaks in the Adirondacks in the same weekend. I went on a trip Friday (the perks of not having Friday classes) that hiked the Dix range.

The colors of the Fall!

This week has been beautiful as the leaves are peaking all over the Adirondacks!! Last weekend I did a short hike up Cascade and Porter. There were a lot of people on the trail and it was a beautiful day to get outside. This week was fairly busy with school as the first round of exams are starting up. Things at the Greenhouse are going along very well, this is our last week of dinners for this rotation of guests and will be signing up more people for the next five weeks starting on the 4th of October.
