Puerto Rico Dreaming

By this point senior year, my snow boots are no longer rainproof and my rain boots no longer have soles. Until today's freeze, then, snow boots in the morning meant soggy socks all day. And rain boots at night meant skating, duck-like, across what I thought were puddles. Senior year. You just can’t win.

The damp, cold wind greeting my arrival back to Canton January 4th did not remind me of my snowy freshman and sophomore winters. Neither did the prospect of almost three months of cold wind until March and spring break. So the swim team and I, like true ocean mammals, found a warmer place to swim.

Courtney's masterpiece "sandman" there's not enough snow in Canton to replicate!

October and Chlorine

“Peak Weekend is traditionally an excellent recruiting tool” my swim coach, Bob Clemmer, likes to say. I can only hope our swim recruit this year’s Peak Weekend liked hiking through water as much as swimming through it. My favorite SLU tradition was more damp than usual this fall, to say the least.

my sunny sophomore Peak Weekend

To the breathless mountaineers who tackled a 46er (or way more than one!) this month, tradition might be enjoying October from a fiery peak.

3 Days, 46 Peaks

The past two weeks have been amazing!! It's truly become evident that school is definitely IN SESSION. Everywhere I look, I see people encapsulated in their everyday routine. Mondays, I know that I'll be putting in my lunch order with the same two lacrosse players that I pass every week in the Pub. Tuesdays and Thursdays, I work out with the same handful of athletes in the gym and see the same crew of climbers working on problems at the climbing wall. There's always a silent- yet noticeable- acknowledgement between two parties that see each other on a regular basis.

Goin' on Three Years Now...

Hey Everybody! The school year has started up again and what an awesome start it has been to what I hope will be another great year. I began my junior year by guiding a pre-trip for the freshman doing intermediate canoeing on Lowes Lake. We saw beavers, egrets, and bald eagles and had sunny days everyday. Upon our return to campus, the new freshman took their first steps towards the beginning of their St. Lawrence adventure and I recalled being in their shoes just two years ago. Two years down and two years to go and I still love being at this school more than ever.

Back to School!

Greetings!! This is my first official blog entry! I can't believe that another summer is over and we have returned to the beautiful North Country. I was happy to return to school and friends after being gone for the spring semester studying abroad in Kenya. I spent the summer in Maine working in a hut system through the western mountains. I was welcomed once again for my second semester of living in the Greenhouse located on Park Street. Living here our goal is to live as sustainably as possible while educating this lifestyle to the St. Lawrence Campus.
