American Exceptionalism

Lately I’ve been reading Edward Abbey. God knows I love a good nature story, particularly one that reminds me what a great collection of natural wonders we have here in this country. And while it would be a stretch to say that Abbey subscribed to any notion of American exceptionalism given his drawn out contempt for our “society” I couldn’t help but be thankful as I wandered through sand dunes in Truro, Mass. this past week, that Abbey and his predecessors had the common sense to cherish pure, natural, land.

Leaves are Changing, Heat is Fading

What a great two weeks that have just flown by! I have now been at school for a month and it continues to amaze me how seamlessly the transition from summer to school is. And what's not to be excited about? I live in a wonderful house- the Outing Club- filled with individuals who are some of the most amazing people I have ever met. Luckily, the fall weather provides the perfect playground for us Outing Clubbers to get outside and lead trips.

Peak Weekend 2010!

It's crazy to believe that two weeks have gone by since I left for my geology trip to Cincinatti but I suppose it is just another reflection of the speed at which this school year is going. Campus has been bustling with activity and this past week almost everyone had their first exam of the fall semester. Campus, too, is a depiction of time passing quickly. The leaves on the trees are changing to gorgeous colors of reds, oranges, and yellows and the crisp fall weather is starting to make its way to the North Country.

Trying to stay healthy!

Happy November!

The colors of the Fall!

This week has been beautiful as the leaves are peaking all over the Adirondacks!! Last weekend I did a short hike up Cascade and Porter. There were a lot of people on the trail and it was a beautiful day to get outside. This week was fairly busy with school as the first round of exams are starting up. Things at the Greenhouse are going along very well, this is our last week of dinners for this rotation of guests and will be signing up more people for the next five weeks starting on the 4th of October.

The Adirondacks = Our Backyard

 Hello, everyone!

What a busy summer this has been...it is very hard to believe in just a few weeks students will be arriving on campus.
