Grace Potter and the Nocturnals!
St. Lawrence University
It's Sunday at last and the end of my first week back at school has come to a close. The second half of the week was packed with activities, starting with my first meeting for guide training on Wednesday night. I really started to get into the flow of my classes, too- Thursday I had my first lab for my outdoor studies class. We hiked to the lean-to, that's just off campus, and had a brief talk sitting in the snow before Professor Johnson set the group off into the woods to find a quite place to sit and think. It was really refreshing to just drop everything and take some time to be alone, especially since I could literally hear nothing but my own breathing yet I was just a short walk from the center of campus.
Later that day, I went to a lecture by one of my professors, Jon Rosales, who was talking about his time at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. I really never realized how complicated these conferences could be but the talk was awesome and it made me really excited to possibly attend a climate change conference in the future. I spent Thursday night at the Java Barn, where the Giant Panda Gorilla Dub Squad band was playing. The place was packed! Everyone was dancing to the music; the energy was through the roof. I got to spend a lot of time talking and meeting different people which was a good thing to do after spending so much time in the woods.
Friday was pretty mellow. A group of my friends and myself drove out to South Colton to do some rock climbing while there was still some daylight. Boy, that rock is cold! But being outside is what I love so the weather doesn't usually bother me. Unfortunately, I spent all Saturday inside but it was worth it because guide training class has finally started! We spent the morning learning about how to resuscitate people who've been injured, treat people for hypothermia, heat stroke, etc. Then we spent the afternoon practicing on each other and going through trauma simulations. The group of us had so much fun and we get along really well.
But now it's finally Sunday and I spent the day doing homework, cleaning my room, and doing laundry. At 8, I headed over to the theater and jammed out to Grace Potter and the Nocturnals with many of my friends and peers. It was a full house!! I can only hope that this next week will be as good as the last. Till next time...

I'm glad you're still
I'm glad you're still getting out in the woods now that you're back, Ash!
