Trying to stay healthy!
St. Lawrence University
Happy November!
St. Lawrence is being taken over by sickness. Whether it is swine flu, a cold, or some other sickness we are all trying to avoid it. So far, I have been lucky and have not gotten sick! Due to the large spread of sickness on campus, all of the social events this weekend were canceled, including the famous annual Outing Club Halloween Party. While most everyone was disappointed, it was definitely the best choice regarding the health of the students. At the greenhouse we tried not to let the swine flu get us down by carving some pumpkins at our house on Friday afternoon. We baked all of the seeds in our oven with various delicious flavoring. My favorite was baking them with maple syrup! We even carved up a sweet pumpkin and made some pumpkin pie!!
Despite the rain on Saturday I went on a hiking trip led by my housemate Rachael Jaffe. Even though we got a little wet, it was worth it to be outside enjoying the day. Going to the Adirondacks is always a great way to get off campus and take a break from the busy school life. Saturday night we continued in the Halloween spirit by dressing up as Ninjas. I saw some very creative costumes on campus, and most everyone dressed up anyways even though all of the Halloween events were canceled.
Sunday I spent most of the day at the Partridge Cafe doing homework. This a nice little cafe in Canton to get breakfast at on a Sunday morning. It's an ideal atmosphere that is off-campus, but still relatively quiet and conducive to doing work. At our greenhouse meeting on Sunday night we discussed our meal plan for having President Fox over for dinner next week! We also discussed ideas for a panel discussion we are organizing on race and environmental justice. This is the last week of dinners with the group of guests, and we will start having new guests next week. Everything at the house is going well, and we are trying to avoid getting sick!
Until next week,
Katie
