The colors of the Fall!
St. Lawrence University
This week has been beautiful as the leaves are peaking all over the Adirondacks!! Last weekend I did a short hike up Cascade and Porter. There were a lot of people on the trail and it was a beautiful day to get outside. This week was fairly busy with school as the first round of exams are starting up. Things at the Greenhouse are going along very well, this is our last week of dinners for this rotation of guests and will be signing up more people for the next five weeks starting on the 4th of October.
This weekend was the Outing Club's famous Peak Weekend, where as a group we try to hike all of the high peaks in the Adirondacks in one weekend! This was definitely the highlight of my week! My friends Taylor, Cami, Matthew, Greg, Alex, and I hiked the Seward range Friday and Saturday. We started on Friday afternoon and hiked into the Blueberry Lean-To's. We quickly dropped our stuff and headed up Mt. Seymour. Because we got a little bit of a late start we reached the summit around sunset. We hiked down mostly in the dark, but we all had headlamps so we made it fine! We quickly ate dinner and went to bed. It was pretty chilly that night, one of the colder nights we have had this fall. We woke the next morning, had some oatmeal and left to conquer Seward Mtn, Mt. Donaldson, and Mt. Emmons. The day could not have been more perfect. Although, a little wet the trail was beautiful and the colors cascading the mountains were unbeatable. We passed a few people on the trail who were equally as excited to be out hiking! We were at the summit of Seward around 10:00 and made it over Dondaldson and Emmons by 12:30. We had a great lunch at the top and relaxed a bit. We made it back down to our cars by 4:30. It was a long trip, but very enjoyable and the exact thing I wanted to be doing on such a gorgeous day. The leaves were definitely at their peak foliage, we could not have asked for a more perfect Peak Weekend.
When We returned to campus we found that all of the groups had successful trips on the peaks, and we successfully climbed all of the high peaks in one weekend! This has been an ongoing school tradition, and we completed another great year of it! Now that it's sunday I must hit the library and start studying for my Genetics and Mycology exams. I think I might say that Fall is my favorite season in Canton, and really enjoyed it this weekend! I am definitely going to get some more hiking in before the fall is over!
Until next time,
Katie

Hello Katie. Great to see your active in the woods. I am an alum from 1990 and 93 and was a member of the outing club when I was there and founder our prep schools Outing club. Here at Brewster near your home town we sent a crew up Mount Washington Sunday. Yet to be peak here but the swamp maples have turned a long time ago and with the cold weather it won't be long. Sounds like all is well and healthy up in Canton. Good luck on exams. Kind regards Byron '90
