Paint & Springsteen

St. Lawrence University

Happy Thursday!

The leaves are already changing color! It is hard to believe that October begins next week.  Part of me feels like I just got back to campus yesterday.

I am definitely getting into one of the busier parts of the semester.  Next week I have two exams. Also, I will be reciting the first paragraph of the prologue to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in MIDDLE ENGLISH! You are probably wondering just how difficult Middle English is... "Whan that April with his showres soote/ The droughte of March hath perced to the
roote" Those are just the first two opening lines. I have been entertaining my roommates with my attempt to capture the rhythm and correct pronunciation!

I had my three hour painting class today. It is an introductory course and we
begin our first big project next week.  It was really nice to wake up this
morning for class, bright and early at 8:30, and paint. I'm not exactly a
morning person, so it helps to start the day playing with paint! Plus, my IPod
was set to Springsteen (my hero who turned 60 yesterday! Happy Birthday Bruce!).
Nothing can beat splattering paint on paper and working on your feathering technique
while jamming out to Backstreets!

Tomorrow night I am having a reunion dinner with some of the girls from my
London study abroad program! I am so excited to catch up with them and reminisce
about Big Ben and Indian food! I was worried that coming back to St. Lawrence
after spending four months in London would make me go a little stir crazy but the opposite has happened.  I have found that I appreciate being here so much more! I miss London, don't get me wrong, but these fall months are my favorite part of the year.  I love when the weather just begins to shift.  The sun is out but you feel that slight crisp chill in the air that makes you pull out a heavier sweater and order a large hot cider!  Next Friday begins Family Weekend and I can hardly wait! My mom will be visiting with two of my Aunts! Watch out St. Lawrence!

Best Wishes & Hot Cider,

Haley
