Half Marathon and Friends

St. Lawrence University

Hello Again!

This weekend was spent with two of my best friends in Syracuse! After we complete the third week of classes, we thought it would be fun to get off campus for a little while, My roommate, Lizzie and I, have been training to run a half marathon. We signed up to run the Arc of Onondaga half marathon in Syracuse on Saturday. The morning was cloudy, but proved to be cool and the perfect weather for running. There were over 1,000 people at the event either running the half marathon, or the 5k run. The proceeds of the event went to the Arc of Onondage Foundation which helps support local programs serving people with developmental disabilities. I set a personal goal to run it under 2 hours. Lizzie and I both beat this goal and ran the 13 miles in 1:52:32. I felt awesome about this time; we averaged a 8:34 minute mile!

Earlier in the week my housemate Rachael and I made pasta with homemade pesto and squash for dinner at the Greenhouse. I also joined a new student organization this week called Reading Buddies. For this I will go to a local school in Canton once a week and work closely with one student on reading skills. This will be a nice break from school for me, and I am excited to do some work with the local Canton community. We had our first Enviornmental Action Organization meeting this week. There was a lot of interest in the group and we brainstormed a lot of good ideas and projects to work on for the semester. We are hoping to work with other student organizations on campus and collaborate to accomplish projects.

I finished my application for studying abroad in New Zealand for the spring semester. I will probably find out in a few weeks whether I have been accepted into the program. The weather continues to look beautiful for this week and I am hoping to run and bike a lot. Rachael and I are planning to cook ravioli for dinner on Tuesday! For now, I am off to do some work in the library!

Cheers, Katie

Congrats!

Wow! A 1:52 half? That's awesome, congrats!
