Saints Top Summer Activities

St. Lawrence University

For those of you have visited SLU before and for those of you who haven't our campus gets a lot of snow in the winter that usually starts to melt around April.  So for us students, we tend to miss some of the best weather Canton has to offer.  When I heard that I was going to be a summer intern for Admissions I was really excited to spend the summer up in Canton and get a chance to take advantage of some of the warmer weather we students tend to miss out on.  The campus in the summer is absolutely gorgeous and with our close proximity to the Adirondacks there are numerous outdoor activities to enjoy.

Here are the SAINTS TOP TEN SUMMER ACTIVITIES!!

1.  Lampson Falls:  This is a must do!  Lampson Falls is about twenty minutes off of campus and is absolutely gorgeous.  You can swim in the surrounding water and it is a great place to relax with a group of friends and catch some sun!

2.  Climb one of the Adirondack Peaks:  St. Lawrence has   numerous outdoor opportunities and with our campus surrounded by the Adirondacks there are plenty of peaks to climb.  The Adirondacks have exactly 46 high peaks to climb so students are in a great environment for hiking.  Recently I just climbed Mt. Jo by Lake Placid with the other interns.  I am not exactly a very "outdoorsy" person you could say, so it was awesome to try and a lot of fun.

3.  Morgans Ice Cream:  This is the local ice cream parlor in Canton.  It is a five minute walk from campus and has the best ice cream in town.

4.  Rope Swing:   This is a definite must do during your fours year at SLU!  Go and grab a group of friends, bring some food and BBQ, and go for a swim.  This is a great spot to get away from campus and relax in the outdoors.

5.   Tube down the Grasse River:  This is so fun!  Buy yourself some inflatable rafts or tubes and float your way down the river with a group of friends.  Make sure you plan some time for this activity though, because the river is a few miles long so this may take you a while (4 to 6 hours).

6.  Go to yoga in the park:  Every Saturday morning the local yoga loft has instructors come into the park and teach yoga for free.  This is absolutely amazing for all of us out here who are not that flexible.  I love yoga and it so nice to try it outside!

7.  Summer Sunset Series:   The Summer Sunset Series is a series of three 5km runs that start and finish on campus throughout the summer and if you run in all three races you get a t-shirt!  I ran in the last race just a couple of days ago and it was really fun.  The track is a little difficult because at one point we run through tall grass onto the golf course.  By the end of the race I was completely exhausted.

8.  Canoe Shack:  The canoe shack is located right beside campus and is a great option not only during the summer but the school year as well.  Any student can go down and borrow a canoe or kayak and take it out for a spin!

9.   Lounge out in the Adirondack chairs:  Adirondack chairs are extremely comfy and can be found absolutely everywhere around campus.  This is something that you will not only do in the summer but during the school year as well.  It is a great way to relax and get some sun!

10.  The farmers market:  This is a summer activity very unique to Canton.  Every Tuesday and Friday at the local park there is a farmers market where different local community members sell different local foods.  The food is really healthy and yummy and by supporting the local farmers market you are also supporting the local community as well.
