Sunday's barbeque was a great way to kick off senior week. The enthusiasm from the faculty band, Love Insurgency added to everyone's excitement about graduation and, most importantly, not having to do anymore work. This week is going to be pretty awesome because there is sooooo much to do! There's a faculty student bbq, white water rafting trip, FYP (First Year Program) reunion, Quad Experience II, Beer and Wine Social, canoeing and so much more. It's funny because as much as I want this week to last I know with everything that's going on it will fly by just as my four years here have.
What I'm especially looking forward to is the FYP reunion. All the people in my FYP (who I lived with and whom I took a course) are meeting at our freshman year dorm as if to end things with the people we started our college careers. These people were my first friends on campus and who remain to be very close. It's interesting to see the separate directions we all have taken since then. Some of us have pledged a sorority, traveled abroad, had a fellowship over the summer, joined a club/varsity sports team, worked somewhere on campus, and/or have joined a theme cottage. We've all had some pretty amazing experiences in the last fours years and I can't wait to see what people have planned next.
The last week of school was quite horrific for me. I had something due each day of finals week. I had three papers, a take home exam, a presentation and music video to make. Out of all of those things, the music video was a nice relief during my hectic week because although I was doing work I actually had a lot of fun learning how to use photography equipment and movie software on the computer. The assignment was to pick a piece of music that doesn't already have a video and film your own. So taking everything that we learned in the semester we put to good use in each of our final projects. When our class finished their projects we came together for one final class to see what everyone had created. I was really impressed with everyone's unique approach to the assignment and how funny some of them were. Here, take a look at mine!
Although I'm sad to be leaving St. Lawrence I am looking forward to the experiences and challenges that lie ahead. I have met some incredible people at SLU who have influenced the way I think about the world and have forced me to ask questions I may have not otherwise asked. My professors have encouraged me to think critically and become aware of the world around me. What I take away from SLU is the opportunity to develop and grow as a person through the people I've met, clubs and teams I've joined, and the opportunity to have first hand work experience in Admissions. I think that no matter where you are take advantage of your surroundings and everything that your community has to offer, you can never stop learning and understanding the ways of the world. For this, I am grateful to have gone to such an incredible school that really is in an "ideal location."
