Summer Time and the Livin' is Easy
St. Lawrence University
I feel extremely privileged to have the opportunity to be spending the summer at Saint Lawrence University. The feel during the summer is very relaxed and I have already had the chance to explore so many unique places that I don’t get a chance to visit during the school year.
This summer I am here at St. Lawrence as part of a 6 member group of interns in the office of admissions. We are responsible for giving tours, contacting prospective students and participating in various projects throughout the office (like this one). It has been a blast thus far and I have really enjoyed spending time with the other interns. We are around each other so much throughout both work and play that I feel very close to everyone after only a few weeks. The friendship process has definitely been on fast forward with us. We all truly missed each other even after just being away for one weekend as many of us traveled home for the Fourth of July.
I have also had the chance to meet
many people outside the internship. Living
in the townhouses is amazing! During the
summer the townhouses are inhabited by the interns and students doing
fellowships and research projects. It is
a great mix of students and allows you to develop great friendships with people
you may have never met during the school year.
The community that is formed among the students in the townhouses during the summer and the year is really special. It is hard for me to imagine a day going by without looking out the glass door of townhouse 602 and seeing a soccer game, people playing croquet, somebody grilling, or a group of kids just relaxing and enjoying SLU summertime. Here is a picture of some of us just being goofy at our townhouse.
I also feel lucky to be up here for the summer because in the fall I will be studying abroad in Denmark. I love St. Lawrence so much that the summer gives me an opportunity to spend extra time on campus for the semester in which I will be abroad. I’m and really excited about the experience and also one of the other interns I am working with (Evan) will also be going Denmark with me this fall.
I encourage you to check in with me as I will be blogging throughout the summer about my experiences with the admissions internship, new friends, and good times. Feel free to post comments and ask questions! So for now I’m signing out from the fish bowl! (By the way the fish bowl our term for the lovely conference room in Payson Hall, where the interns work. It is surrounded by glass on all sides and sometimes the admissions staff likes to just tap on the glass as they walk by, hence the fish bowl.)

Nice blog Josh. I really like the pictures. It gives people a good sense of not only the working scene but what we do with friends as well. Good work!
