Birthday and Townhouses

St. Lawrence University

So as I said in my last post Monday was my 21st birthday!  I had a blast and really enjoyed to company of my friends!  I had a busy day with classes and also doing tours because it was a visit day.  It was President's Day, so a lot of high schools were not in session.  We had tons of visitors on that day, I did a large group tour with Bela and also met some great kids at lunch at Dana.  In the evening my friends surprised me with a cake, balloons and a little party.  It was a lot of fun!  We even went to the Hoot Owl, a local bar, for my first night!  It was pretty empty, but we had a fun night!  It was also my mom's YAY! birthday, which is pretty neat.  Even one of my residents from last year (Elizabeth) and I share the same birthday!

Also, today townhouse applications were due.  It was a lot of work getting our application perfected, but I think we have a good shot of getting in.  The townhouses are a housing option just available to seniors and you must apply to live in them.  The goal is to allow the 120 most involved seniors the privilege of living in this great housing option.  Each townhouse has five single bedrooms, a large kitchen, a large living room, two bathrooms, and a little patio.  I am a little spoiled because I had the opportunity to live in the townhouses during this past summer with my internship with the Office of Admissions.  The application this year consisted of a few questions concerning your involvement at SLU, your contributions to the St. Lawrence community and how the townhouses reflect responsibility.  We find out at the end of February if we are accepted.  I will keep you posted.  I am hoping that my group gets in and that we have a low housing lottery number so we get a good spot.

All students must delcare a major by the end of thier sophomore year.  Tomorrow is major declaration day for chemistry!  There is a pizza party for those considering declaring it as there major and I am going to talk to some of the prospective students.  Additionally, there is going to be a raffle of some cool chemistry related prizes and all of the professors are wearing t-shirts that they designed with some funny/corny chemistry jokes.  It should be a good time!  Then right after that I am headed to Admissions for an info session about the Summer Intern position.  I think it will be great to talk to people interested in the position.  I had so much fun with this internship last summer and I was to share those experiences with other and encourage students to apply.
