Thanksgiving Break!
St. Lawrence University
Last Friday while most students were getting excited to head home for
break, our basketball team was getting excited to play our first game
of the season. We opened our season with a tip-off tournament at
Williams College in Williamstown, MA. We left SLU early Friday morning and most the guys on the team took this as a good opportunity to take a nap, while others watched movies. Our first game in the tournament was against
Ursinus College and it was a really good test for our team right off the bat as they were ranked the #12 team in the country for D-III basketball. We ended up losing the game by 6 points, I think it was a really good game for our team and showed us where we are at. We quickly had to re-focus after the game and begin to think about the next game which was against South Vermont the following day.
One of the team's favorite things about weekend road trips is that usually on the second day for our team meal we stop at a diner. Everyone really loves to eat at diner's on the team and it always makes for a good time. I have included a picture of me and some of my teammates with our meals. (Yes, it did taste as good as it looks in the picture!)
I think the meal was very effective as it gave our team plenty of
energy to go out and get a win on Saturday by beating South Vermont
99-85. When we got back to campus after the game on Saturday night the
reality of everybody being gone on break really hit us as the campus
was virtually empty. Sunday we had an off day and this was a good
chance of getting rested up after the 2 games and start to get ready
for Middlebury, who we were playing on Tuesday. Sunday and then Monday
when we were not practicing consisted of the team playing a lot of
video games. My favorite part of it was going back to our childhood
days and playing some Nintendo 64, Mario Party is still amazing! We
knew that we would have another really tough game against Middlebury
but it was nice to be home and I think we used that to our advantage to
play comfortable and loose. We ended up winning the game 84-71 and it
made heading home for Thanksgiving break that much better. It was nice
to be able to go home after the game and spend some time with our
families over the holiday. Right now we are in a good position at 2-1
and are getting excited about next game against Plattsburgh State on
Tuesday night here at Burkman Gymnasium starting at 8 p.m, after the the
girl's game.
