Thanksgiving Break
St. Lawrence University
On Friday November 21st the Men's and Women's Squash teams traveled to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York for the Liberty League Tournament. The Men were defeated in a 9-0 match against Rochester who is ranked 5th in the country and were able to beat Vassar (9-0) and Hobart (8-1) coming 2nd in the tournament. Unfortunately, the Women weren't as successful as the Men.
We put up a good fight against William Smith and Vassar but were at a loss placing 3rd in the tournament. Recognizing what we need to work on (and having 3 players returning from abroad semesters) our team is looking forward to playing both teams at the end of the season at Harvard for the Howe Cup. I was really looking forward to this tournament not only because it was our first match of the season but I was able to see my best friend from home, Hope Blinkoff who plays for Vassar. Coincidentally, we were both playing number 4 this weekend and had a comical yet serious 3 games. You may have won Hope but don't expect me to take it easy on you again at the end of the year!
I'm so happy it's Thanksgiving break because I sure need it! I've had quite a bit of work the past two weeks. I had everything from an exam and a paper for Gender, workshop paper for Fiction, performance for Acting and multiple readings for Communication. When we get back to school we have two weeks of classes then a week for exams and before we know it will be Christmas! First semester will already be over, wow! Do you know what that means? It means I only have one more semester of college left; I plan on making the most of it which you will continue to see in my blogs.
Now that I'm home I'm going to take advantage of relaxing on the couch with my two dogs, Newf and Elle and spending time with my family and friends. It's the first year that we're not having Thanksgiving at my grandmother's with all my aunts, uncles, and cousins; instead we are having my grandmother and her sister over at our house for dinner. On Saturday we're going to have a family and friend get together at my aunt and uncle's house seeing that it's rare we're all home at the same time. I hope everyone enjoys their break and has a delicious Thanksgiving dinner!
Just in case you hadn't heard the exciting news, S.L.U. has elected it's 18th President, William L. Fox '75 ! Here, read all about it...
